The Midland County Program
Some History
The Midland County Gypsy Moth Suppression Program has oporated continuously since 1986, monitoring and spraying the moth as necessary. Large amounts of spray were needed in the early years and in the resurgance in the late 90's but recently early detection and intervention has kept the annual spray to a minimum.
The Program is funded by a small property tax millage collected only as needed. The full amount of the allowed millage has been collected in only ten of the twenty two years of operation. The voters have approved the small property tax seven times in the past 22 years, usually by a large margin.
